My friend Jocelyn, wanted to have an epic 26th Birthday and asked me to help her with the decorations, of course I was eager to lend a hand!
She wanted her Birthday somewhere where it was convenient for both city and suburbanites to join in the festivities and that hotels were not a far reach. First place that came to mind was Five Roses, especially since it already had that 1920’s vibe with beautiful gold lighting, red curtains and of course the adorable fireplace library.
We both fell in love with the space and it had everything that she wanted! They even worked with her on a food/liquor package which was perfect!
The most important thing, for her, was the entrance. She wanted all her guests to walk in and be wowed! I think this 9 foot tall Gatsby inspired cardboard entrance did the trick! I found this one online at Shindigz. I was actually worried that putting it together would take forever, but it actually went rather smoothly.
The prohibition photo-both corner was a crowd favorite! I ordered it on Shindigz and again they surprised me with simplicity of putting it together. This was a great place for the party-goers to snap pictures with fun photo props. I added some wooden crates, I already had, photo-both props and of course some fake money/money bags. Also, used my small wooden chalkboards to remind the guests to take photos throughout the night and hash tag.
Me and the beautiful Birthday girl Jocelyn <3
For me I think that cake/food tables should always be some sort of a focal point. Even though treats are delicious in themselves, the presentation is everything! I did something similar for the Tea Party Bridal Shower, Click here for the tea party Bridal Shower inspiration.
Bianca got balloons, I ordered the gold tinsel backdrop and table skirting on Oriental Trading, used some gold items, from my home, and then ordered the banner, again on Shindigz. Black, gold, white and silver color palette. Everything went together so well!
Bianca’s aunt, made the amazing Macaroon cake. Yes, the macaroons are home-made and to die for! The cake was all organic and the layers were soaked in framboise with a layer of raspberry in between. The frosting was a classic buttercream with gold flakes.
It was our gift to the Birthday girl since we wanted to light the candles and sing Happy Birthday to her!
For the table centerpieces, I spray painted wine bottles gold, dipped them in glitter and then ordered white ostrich feathers to stick in the top. I wanted these to look exactly like what you would see at a Gatsby’s party. PS the key is to use Styrofoam balls to make the feathers stay in and fan out.
Last but not least I thought I would be creative and take some plastic martini glasses and construct a mock champagne tower. I used my handy dandy hot glue gun and added some pearls for some class. Think it actually turned out quite well.
All and all Jocelyn had a great time and was very thankful I was able to help her idea come to life. It was an epic party and so much fun! I am still recovering today…
I am lucky to have such great friends!
Cheers,
Britt
