The whiskey sour is a classic cocktail that balances sweet and tart flavors together. Making a whiskey sour is easy and is super refreshing on a hot summer day!

Typically a Whiskey Sour is: whiskey, lemon juice and sugar that is chilled and then strained into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

The real history behind the drink is actually interesting…The original origin of the “Whiskey” Sour traces back to the 1700’s when “Bartender” Vice Admiral Edward Vernon, would serve his British Navy Sailors, rum with lemon or lime juice to keep the sailors safe from scurvy. He began mixing rum with lemon or lime juice to mask the watered down flavor of the liquor and to help keep his sailors healthy. I bet he never knew this would become such a popular drink!

The sailors then brought the “sour” mix back to shore where they then substituted other liquor such as gin and brandy. It wasn’t until American bartenders, in the 19th century made the drink the most popular with Whiskey.

While many of you favor a plain old Whiskey Sour,  since it is National Whiskey Sour Day, lets switch it up with some unique varieties of this classic drink! Ready for your mouth to water?

Simple Whiskey Sour

The Whiskey Sour is a classic and delicious drink! It is super smooth and can be enjoyed really any time of the day! Since it is essentially three ingredients it is also rather easy to make!

Egg White Whiskey Sour

Obviously you add Egg White, which you would think would be weird but it adds to the smoothness of the drink!

Double Standard Sour

Not only is this drink cute but it has a little kick to it with the addition of gin yet the sweetness of one of my favorite additions, grenadine!

New York Sour

For all you winos, this will be your choice!

Dizzy Sour

This drink will make you hit the floor with the addition of rum, egg whites and Bénédictine!

The Gold Rush

If you like it sweet, the addition of honey will make your day!

Cheers,

Britt
