Happy Friday dudes! It’s almost the weekend and we are one day a away from Valentine’s Day. If you have dinner plans, great. You are already ahead of the game, but have you considered dessert? For Valentin’es Day my boyfriend and I like to go out for dinner. I know it’s a nice idea to stay home and cook a nice meal, but I cook dinner three times a week. It’s nice to go out. I do however like to make something for dessert. And if you’re thinking you won’t have time to make anything, it’s only Friday. You have until Sunday night to find the right recipe and get your ingredients.
I am making my Grandmother’s cheesecake recipe. I have never made it for my boyfriend before so it’s both a treat and gift! Consider the same, making a family recipe. It helps show who you are and where you come from. But if you don’t have any family recipes, I have 5 tasty recipes sure to please for Valentine’s Day.
We usually do recipe and drink round-up’s on Thursday’s but since we are coming up on a Holiday weekend, why not do another dessert listing for Valentine’s Day? Enjoy!
Blackberry Jam & Almond Tart
I chose this recipe first because Valentine’s Day is a Sunday and this would make a great brunch item. You can prepare it the night before and serve it with breakfast in bed with lots of croissants and other tasty carbohydrates. Also, you are never going to find a more creative recipe for tarts that you will want to serve to your main squeeze as well as your friends and family. I’ve sung the praises of Liz at Floating Kitchen before, and I will probably do it again! She has an amazing food blog and I know you will find more than one recipe you will want to try at home. Get this tart recipe at Floating Kitchen.
Copycat Little Debbie Snack Cakes
Have you ever imagined Valentine’s Day as a sweet fluffy cloud of deliciousness? No? Just me then? This recipe is love in a bite. I will admit I have not had a Little Debbie snack cake in years, probably not since high school. I do however remember the light and fluffy texture and the subtle sweet taste. Also, you might think this is crazy, but these actually look fun to make! After looking over the recipe on Shugary Sweets, I can’t wait to get a heart shaped cookie cutter start making these! The homemade version is always better because you know what goes in it and you can swap out whatever items you want. Get the full recipe at Shugary Sweets.
Strawberry Cheesecake Shortcake
I chose this strawberry cake because we are not all choco-holics. They really push chocolate on Valentine’s Day, but it does not have to be the official flavor of Valentines Day. This recipe combines cheesecake and shortcake, which I am so excited about! I love the mixed textures, it really shows the variety in your baking game. I must warn you, you are setting the bar high for dessert if you make this for your Valentine! If you want to make a unique cake for almost any event, Grandbaby Cakes has a great cookbook out. Want to taste this one first? Get the full recipe at Grandbaby Cakes.
Marble Cake with Bittersweet Caramel Sauce
Marble Cake anyone? Can you imagine coming home after a nice dinner and glasses of champagne to this sweet mess? It’s not a traditional chocolate cake, and it’s not too fancy to make yourself. I chose this dessert for the richness of it. It’s a playful piece you can share with your valentine. Something like this, you don’t necessarily need a piece to yourself. I also love the bittersweet caramel sauce topping. You can of course swap it for chocolate, but give this caramel sauce a try first. Enjoy this recipe and more at Love, Cake.
Homemade Oreo’s with Raspberry Filing
How cute are these bite size hearts? I know you have seen the various seasonal Oreo’s they put out each year. I have seen pumpkin spice Oreo’s and red velvet Oreo’s, but have yet to see raspberry filled Oreo’s. I chose these because they are something so simple you can make and serve with ice cream or cake. If you opt to split dessert at the restaurant, these will make a great late night snack as well!. What I really like is that they are the same texture of an Oreo, but homemade. It’s a chocolate crumbly cookie that tastes like the real deal. Even better, you know the ingredients! Love this recipe and found some other great baking ideas at Baker Bettie.
Bonus Baked Good!
If you made it through this post and you just had your heart broken, way to go! Single Valentine’s day means having a Galentine’s day or cursing love all together, whatever you chose, you do you. But, heart break happens and luckilyy, there is a cake for it. We have all been there. Even if it’s not you in the middle of heartache city, you might want to make this cake as a Valentine’s surprise for one of your gal pals.
Love Sucks Heart Break Cake
Awesome right? Yes, the knife in the middle is for affect, but I really think you should do it if you make this cake. I mean it’s a heart break cake, might as well let it serve it’s full purpose. And if you are recovering from a heart break, taking a stab at a chocolate cake might actually serve as some sort of therapy, you never know. I found this bad ass cake idea at Dessert For Two, and if you look around too much on the blog you will find more than one thing you will want to bake this weekend.
Enjoy and Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!
