For Valentine’s Day my boyfriend and I decided to switch it up this year and do a fun brunch instead of a fancy dinner. We were not only done with spending a ridiculous amount of money on food but also sick of the sappy crowded spaces. To be honest it can be romantic, but in small doses. So, this year we drove up to Kenosha, Wisconsin and checked out Mike’s Chicken and Donuts, since I have heard so many good things!
Mike’s Donuts & Chicken, Mike’s Chicken & Donut Bar and Mike’s Sportsbook & Meat Bar three businesses under one roof serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night munchies. They also have weekend entertainment.
After parking on the street we walked into the cute diner side entrance where we automatically got hit with a delicious smell of donuts! They have standard cinnamon, glazed, cake donuts, maple bacon praline long johns and feature 1-2 specialty donuts with homemade toppings and fillings. They are all over-sized and they say that a half dozen is really like eating a dozen, so you get your moneys worth!
They advertise their mouth watering creations on Facebook and have some incredibly unique creations! Fresh coffee and donuts, that you only dream of, are ready every day at 7 a.m. Here are just a few pictures of their unique donuts!
After we walked past the diner/donut area we walked into the first floor bar level where we posted up on a tall table. It has a hipster, modern vibe with painted walls, wood floors and industrial features. I loved the style! Even the bathrooms were creatively decorated with famous celebrities pictured on the wall/stalls watching you as you finish your “business”! Basically Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt watched me pee…was going to take a picture of the bathroom but that might be weird.
They also have a HUGE beer menu and serve lots of kinds of whiskey as well! But, I got a mimosa and Mark got a bloody mary that came with all the goodies! Unfortunately, since we weren’t watching the clock, we missed the deadline to order brunch, which was a total bummer but we were starving so we ordered off the lunch menu.
I got one of their most famous dishes; the wings. Three garlic parmesan and the other three donut glaze. How can you go to a restaurant and not order their most popoular item!!? Mark ended up getting the Cajun pasta dish.
After enjoying our drinks, our meals came quickly afterwards. They smelled delicious! Mark loved his and mine was good but a little salty. Other than that, can’t complain. We also got a few glazed donuts to go, so we could enjoy them at home.
All and all we will definetely be going back! If I take Bianca next time we will probably just go for drinks because they had maybe 2 vegetarian options.
Basically Mike’s Chicken & Donuts Bar is not something you want to miss out on! Make your way up to Kenosha and experience what all the hype is about!
