Sippin’ Summer Bourbon

When I hear the word bourbon, I think of high school. You know when you stole liquor from your parents liquor cabinet. You didn’t know what it was, you just wanted it. So you snuck shots of stuff like Wild Turkey without mixing it. Well we are adults now and there is no need to break into your parents liquor cabinet anymore.

June 14th was National Bourbon Day. If you aren’t big on the drink, I have 7 reasons to persuade you otherwise. Enjoy these 7 summery cocktails that use fruit and other sweets to make a refreshing bourbon cocktail.

Blackberry Bourbon Fizz

I have to start with one of my favorites. It’s from one of my favorite cookbooks, Thug Kitchen. It’s fizzy and uses a classic summertime fruit, blackberries. It also uses one of may favorite mixers, ginger ale!

Mixed Berry Bourbon Lemonade

Do yourself a favor and head to the local farmers market, get a large bucket of berries and make this recipe. How good does a spiked lemonade sound on a hot day?

Bourbon Thyme

Yes it is bourbon time, or should I say thyme. Don’t you love it when a cocktail recipe uses fresh herbs too? A sophisticated drink with honey, lemon and thyme. Get the recipe at Set The Table.

Sweet Tea Bourbon

Where my southern folks at? I never liked sweet tea, but I do like sweet tea vodka. Mixed with some lemonade to make John Daly’s, so good! It’s also a great southern drink just like this Sweet Tea Bourbon.

Peno Blast

Want a delicious drink for summer that uses watermelon AND jalapeno? Got it. Extra bonus points for you if you use the candied jalapenos.

Cherry Chocolate Bourbon Soda

Yessss. For some reason as soon as summer rolls around I love some cherries. Dark cherries with the pits, so tasty! So I love this drink for dessert and anytime I can. It’s not the most simple drink, but if you can get it right it would be so worth it!

Blueberry Bourbon Cocktail

What is summer without a ridiculous abundance of blueberries right? I eat them all summer long and add to drinks and smoothies because they are so available. Might as well save a few handfuls and make this drink!

Happy Thirsty Thursday Everyone!
