Water is the MOST essential element to health and survival! As young ladies, we sometimes forget how much we take water for granted! We always care about the newest face creams, high calorie workouts or the newest caffeine drink at Starbucks. But really water can help us with some of biggest daily blunders!
Water is basically FREE. Free of calories and cost, if drank from the tap. It is the one beverage that literally gives you life.
While water is on the up and up of becoming more a popular to drink over soft drinks, it is still hard for some to keep up with drinking water throughout the day.
On top of helping prevent a number of different cancers, here are 10 reasons why water is so important for us twenty-somethings to drink each and every day.
Makes Your Body Work
Can you believe that roughly 60 percent of your body is made of water? Drinking water helps move all your nutrients around your body, regulate temperature and digest food. Your kidney essentially lives off fluids so that it can transport waste to your bladder! Sounds to me like water is a necessity to life and full body function!
Boosts Brain Productivity
Some studies have shown that water can promote clearer thinking. So try it next time you take an important exam or before you study! Water can help you stay alert and focused!
Natural Caffeine
While we all LOVE our coffee one of the most common symptoms of dehydration is tiredness. Without water your body cannot help produce food into energy.
Calorie Controller
Yes, studies have actually shown that drinking water can help with weight loss. Water helps you feel full which results in consuming less calories when eating! Pretty simple!
Fuels Muscle
We don’t all sweat glitter, so the water that we loose at the gym can make our muscles and bodies tired! You need water to give your muscles energy so you can push through a tough workout!
Clears Skin
Detoxing with liquid diets for a week is great but certain toxins in the body cause clogged pores and acne which no one wants at our age! Drinking water can help flush those bad toxins out and in return help reduce bad skin.
Helps Hangovers
After a long night of partying, what do we all go for when we wake up with a hangover? Advil, but also water! Water is the best thing for you after a hangover because it will help you hydrate your body and recover.
Natural Painkiller
We all have that time of the month where we get some pretty gnarly cramps and a little water can go a long way to help! Even being sore from a hard workout at the gym can be helped with some water becuase it helps cure the body of dehydration.
Helps Regularity
For me I hate yogurt and that commercial creeps me out so why not deal with digestion issues with a glass of water! The colon needs water in order for things to move smoothly; if you know what I mean!
Immune Booster
Water can help your body fight off a cold when you are feeling under the weather. Just keep in mind this isn’t an overnight remedy!
So all this is great, but now we must decided how much water we should be drinking everyday. WebMD states there are two rules that we can follow:
- Eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.
- Drink somewhere between a half an ounce to an ounce of water for every pound you weigh. For those living in hot climates, go for the full ounce.
What I think is more realistic is what greatist.com describes as the “Action Plan”: Begin drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up and then continue to drink water throughout the day such as 30 minutes before you eat a meal to help control your appetite. If you keep to the habit of keeping a water bottle with you at all times it will help remind you. Also, if plain water bores you spice it up with adding fruit, just stay away from sugary content.
Don’t wait for your body to tell you that you are thirsty. Be an adult and be on top of your essential water intake so that you are healthy! It is important for us twenty-somethings to take water serious and start looking out for our overall health by our daily water intake!
Cheers,
Britt
